Have You Eaten?

MY COOKBOOK IS NOW AVAILABLE WORLD-WIDE

Yes, that’s right. I made an actual real cookbook complete with all of my favourite recipes, 78 to be precise. And they're all dishes that I make all the time so you know it's going to be easy, delicious and perfect for busy people!

It is a book is filled with vibrant, Asian-inspired recipes that are super fresh and packed with flavour. Easy to make and delectable to eat, there’s something for every occasion; whether you want to slurp fragrant, spicy noodles in a matter of minutes, sink into a soothing bowl of congee, or share a round of vegan baos or dumplings.

‘Have you eaten?’ is a question commonly asked in Asian culture when you first greet someone; the answer will not only let you know if your friends or loved ones are hungry, but also how they are feeling. These three words also epitomise what cooking means to me; they are an expression of love, a way of working out if a bowl of something comforting can help improve a mood or circumstance. To me and many others, food always makes life better.

These people have eaten!

My favourite cook book
This is one of my favourite cook books. I love the cuisine and Verna's enthusiasm shines through in the description provided for each dish. Handy tips, a huge range of dishes, big and small, loads of great info. The chilli oil and dumpling sauce recipes OMG, should be in a jar in supermarkets.

My favourite bit is the pairing suggestions where Verna creates a set menu for you.The final comment is how big the book is, so much stuff in there. Bit worried about the 2nd book, like a rock group, sometimes the debut album is too good. No worries for Verna tho, she will have a tv show travelling the world, sampling world cuisine.

My favourite cookbook at the moment!
I've never tried cooking Asian food before I discovered Verna's Instagram and bought her cookbook, and I didn't expect it to be so easy and tasty! All the recipes are very easy to follow, with explanations, tips, and pairing suggestions. I especially appreciated the intro describing the basic ingredients (and what to use if you can't get something or want an alcohol-free option). Verna's personal stories make the book all the more heart-warming - she's just the perfect guide to Asian cooking!

I highly recommend the book to anyone regardless of their cooking skills level. The recipes are usually for two servings, but they are easily adaptable for one serving (for stir-fry sauces, after trying out half a dozen recipes, I'd recommend using the quantities indicated in the recipe, though).

Very insightful
Verna's book gives a great insight into a vast number of asian dishes. For someone who has a liking for the Asian flavour palette, I do find I eat the same kind of things over and over. Having this book has been an eye-opener for me- there's plenty of quick dishes I can prepare with few ingredients!

The content is nicely presented, with recipes sorted by mood which is a nice touch.

You really get a sense of Verna's passion for cooking and what led to where she is now.I am looking forward to trying some of these recipes myself !!!

Easy to follow and delicious!
We bought this book just before Christmas and absolutely love it. We've already made about 7 of the dishes so far (The Taiwanese fried chicken was to die for! Verna was right to include the addiction disclaimer). All the recipes have been so easy to follow and have been so full of flavour! Also love that it includes pairing options for the dishes. It really has opened up a whole new world of cooking to us. We can't wait to try out more of the recipes and would highly recommend this book to anyone.

The best cook book we have purchased, and definitely deserving 5 stars!

The only recipe book I keep in the kitchen
Normally when I get hyped up enough to buy an actual recipe book I'm quickly disappointed to find I'm either not that keen on most of the recipes, or theyre a bit too cumbersome to make regularly, so the book ends up collecting dust on a book shelf.

With the exception of this book, who lives in my kitchen and in its 4 short months in my house has become covered in oil marks, fingerprints and other stains from being used literally every week. The recipes are all delicious and so easy. I make something from this book at least 3 times a week with a couple of the dishes now on regular repeat, and still have so many more of the recipes to try. Absolute fave.

A delicious Asian cookbook that truly captivates all your senses
I recently had the pleasure of diving into a new Asian inspired cookbook that truly captivated all my senses. "Have You Eaten?" not only delivers delectable recipes but also weaves into a rich tapestry of personal anecdotes about family gatherings, travels and cultural experiences, adding a heartfelt dimension to the book. It's like having a friend guide you through the culinary traditions of Asia, sharing not just the recipes but the love and memories that accompany them.

The recipes themselves are a treasure trove of Asian cuisine. From the spicy flavours of Thailand to the delicate tastes of Japan, this cookbook offers a wide array of dishes to explore. Whether you're a seasoned cook or a novice in the kitchen, the clear instructions and ingredient lists make it accessible for all.

Just incredible food
I’ve followed Verna for a while on Instagram, after attending a pop up of hers a year or so ago in Brixton. I loved the food she served there and adore making her recipes. I love the fact they are simple, easy to make but just so exciting and full of flavour. I was super excited when her book came out and I have not been able to stop cooking from it since it arrived in the post. There is such a variety of exciting yet simple and delicious Asian recipes in there. A couple favourites are the egg and tomato stir fry and the Mapo tofu, but there are so many to choose from. I cannot recommend this book enough. It is now my go to for Asian cooking. Buy it!!!

One of the best cookbooks of 2023!
I’ve been waiting for Verna to release a cookbook since she launched her instagram account (vernahungrybanana). Verna takes you on a journey from her childhood to the present day which is down-to-earth and honest and explore her British Chinese heritage as well as her family’s history.

The recipes themselves are also highly accessible (and also adaptable for vegans and vegetarians). I would also say there is something in there for everyone who is interested in East and Southeast Asian food. The kimchi udon is simply delicious. Other recipes include Thai prad kra pow, black pepper tofu, beef hofun, kimchi fried rice, tomato and egg, and so many other great classics as well as Verna’s creations. I will be keeping this book off of my bookshelf and put it in the kitchen this year because I just know I’ll use it often.

Already looking forward to the next one! :)

Yummy!
I bought this book for my fiance who is more and more getting into Asian recipes and it's really good! I've always loved her videos so it's nice to have a cookbook too. The recipes are easy and explained well!
